Information adapted from Hema Maps web site NEW HEMA NAVIGATOR HEMA
has just released an updated and upgraded version of its in-vehicle
navigation system. They’ve called it the HN5i. The
HEMA NAVIGATOR HN5i uses the same fast and reliable hardware as its
predecessor, but there’s been a complete software update. It now uses iGo
Primo, a premium street navigation product. It is not only more
sophisticated and user-friendly, but also allows for greater personal
customisation, plus it comes with the latest CAMPS Australia Wide Edition 6
sites preloaded. HEMA
is also offering free street updates to buyers for a whole two years:
available in regular periodic downloads. This is great value considering
updates would normally cost $100 each! All
the latest HEMA 4WD, Touring and Australia TOPO 250K maps are preloaded on
an 8GB Micro SD card, ready for use on the HN5i in both OziExplorer and
Memory-Map. STREET
NAV – IGO iGo
Primo represents the pinnacle of the iGo programs, giving the user a
fully-customisable street nav system that is very simple and easy-to-use,
with good colours and large buttons. One
of the key features is the incorporation of a ‘Quick’ menu. You can
enter any eight icons you wish on the Quick menu to make the unit fully
functional for your style of navigation. Of particular interest to campers
and caravanners are the 3700 preloaded sites from the very latest CAMPS
Australia Wide Edition 6 (CAMPS 6). You can use the HN5i in conjunction with
the printed CAMPS 6 to work out where you’ll stay and then navigate
directly to your chosen site. Alternatively just find the sites nearest to
you, along your route, or at your chosen destination. Accommodation and
caravan park choices can also be accessed in the same way. It’s a very
well thought-out program. You can enter a single or multi-point route and
the unit will display the distance to go and the time it will take to get
there. It will even tell you how much fuel you’ll need, which is very
useful to know just where you’ll have to fuel up in remote Outback areas.
Then with two clicks you can find your nearest service station or mechanic.
You can even calculate your carbon dioxide output! And photographers (and
bush campers) will appreciate information about sunrise and sunset times. Because
the HN5i has all HEMA’s 4WD tracks preloaded, you can also use iGo on any
of HEMA’s Outback 4WD tracks. Back in the city, the unit knows the speed
limits on most roads, and vocally reminds you of them (only once, not
repeatedly) if you’re driving too fast. Although
the HN5i comes preloaded with both Australian and New Zealand street data,
you can also purchase data for other parts of the world through iGo’s
Naviextras application. 4WD
NAV – OZIEXPLORER For
lovers of OziExplorer HEMA has simplified the user experience, so that
features are now accessed more easily via icons rather than a menu system,
with a new toolbar down the side of the screen. They call it EZI OZI and
it’s now possible to instantaneously input waypoints (like great campsites
or fishing spots) with the touch of a button, not three or four menu clicks.
Plus, the icons at the base change depending on what function you’re using
(for example maps, waypoints, tracks, routes or whatever). By the way, those
who can’t bear to change from the old version of OziExplorer can go back
to it with just two clicks. TOPO
NAV – MEMORY-MAP The
final program on the HN5i is Memory-Map – one the newcomer should use
first as it has a simplified interface and is pre-loaded with the same maps
as OziExplorer. A key benefit is that there’s a range of aftermarket micro
SD cards ready to plug into the HN5i, with the TOPO series for your state.
These include a range of topographic map scales from 1:25k to 1:100k. MORE GREAT HEMA MAPS! Perhaps
one of the most important features of the new NAVIGATOR is that all the
relevant HEMA maps have been pre-loaded – not just the 4WD maps (including
Great Desert Tracks) – but the updated state-by-state touring maps as
featured in the latest HEMA Road Atlas too. There’s also a new seamless
Topo 250K Australia map with the contour lines retained, but overlaid with
icon information on things like 24hr fuel, campsites, van parks and visitor
information centres. Everything’s in the easy-to-read Hema cartographic
style, but at a much higher res. Because HEMA is the only Australian mapping
company with a dedicated field vehicle, these maps are the most up-to-date
possible. The new unit actually comes with an 8GB micro SD card with a
whopping 4GB of free space for you to add your own maps. TRIP PLANNING DVDS The
HN5i comes with two DVDs so you can interface the GPS with your PC; in
either OziExplorer or Memory-Map. The software loads all the HEMA maps into
your computer so you can plan your trips and upload/download to and from
your NAVIGATOR and share your latest adventures with friends and family. The
HN5i comes with a full 12 month warranty and is backed by HEMA’s dedicated
customer support team.
