In an area larger than Europe, beyond the last roads and railways, their tracks make the map of the inland, become the roads of tomorrow and mark the growth of a nation.  

This is the story of one of those men and the people he serves….” So runs the introduction to the classic 1950s video about the Birdsville Track and the mailman who kept the supply lines open. Tom Kruse was that mailman and the film of his story is now one of the classic Australian films of all time. Before the coming of Europeans this ancient 500 kilometre track was used by Aboriginal people trading between the Flinders Ranges and the Gulf of Carpentaria . This track is now called the Birdsville Track and Tom Kruse its most famous traveller. Produced by John Heyer and the Shell Film Unit in 1954. Running time 65 minutes.
