Quarantine Points: We have been advised that few maps from any publisher show the locations of quarantine stations, often resulting in travellers having to dispose of quantities of food at great expense. Any fresh fruit, vegetables, honey, nuts or anything packed in fruit or cardboard boxes will be confiscated. However, you will most likely be able to make up fruit salads from the food you have, or consume it on the spot, and dispose of the cores and skins and peel.

The major quarantine stations to be aware of are:

  • Border Village on the Nullabor WA - SA border
  • Between Billiluna and Halls Creek on the Tanami Track
  • Laverton on the Great Central Road
  • Great Northern Hwy on the WA - NT border
  • Major roads leading into the Riverland Area of South Australia
  • There is a quarantine check point just west of Ceduna for travellers coming from the Nullabor into SA. It is a particular trap, as the ads that run in the magazines showing the quarantine areas never mention it! (from Max Boyley)
